Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
